More Housing Inventory Should Help Slow Rising Prices
For the fourth month in a row, existing-home sales fell, according to the National Association of Realtors (NAR). Yet the decline was moderate, and all four sales regions of the country posted year-over-year sales gains. According to Lawrence Yun, chief economist for the NAR, a “lack of inventory continues to be the overwhelming factor holding back home sales, but falling affordability is simply squeezing some first-time buyers out of the market.”
Despite this, Yun sees encouraging signs in the housing market: “Supply is expected to improve, which will give buyers more options and help tamp down record-high asking prices for existing homes.”
